A key figure in the international performing arts world, with a specialization in dance, Assis Carreiro is a senior cultural leader working for over three decades with organisations around the globe. Based in the UK, Assis represents international choreographers and designers and provides one-to-one bespoke mentoring and strategic consultancy to arts and cultural organisations. Current projects include Artistic Advisor to DanceEast’s Rural Retreats; Consultant to recruitment firm AEM International; mentoring for Mercury Creatives consultant to the Australia Council and International Market Development Consultant for Canada’s CAPACOA. She is a Trustee of Rambert School of Ballet and Dance, Australian’s Project Animo and Jubilee Hall in Aldeburgh.
Assis has served as Artistic Director at Royal Ballet Flanders, Artistic Director and Executive Director of DanceEast (UK) where she led the capital project for the creation of the Jerwood DanceHouse; Cultural Strategist, High Commission of Canada in the UK; Director of Culture, Quebec Delegation; Programmer at DasTAT, Ballet Frankfurt; Artistic Director, DanceXchange and for over a decade was Head of Education, Outreach & Publications with The National Ballet of Canada.
Assis was born in the Azores and raised in Canada and has lived in the UK since 1994. In 2014 Assis was awarded an MBE for her services to dance.
